Make Super Bowl XLVI
Sunday, February 5th, millions of Americans will tune in to the Super Bowl football game. There will be parties with abundant food, friendship and fellowship. At the same time, there will be people worrying about staying warm, finding shelter and a warm meal. In 1990, a Super Bowl Sunday prayer inspired a group of Presbyterian young people to create “The Souper Bowl of Caring.” This is now a national movement lead by churches and youth groups to share some of our bounty with those most in need.
It’s a simple, yet significant act of caring for others. Drop $1 (or more) in the soup pot as you leave worship on February 5th. We will also be collecting food items. Those who need help may not know that you cared, but God will.
Our young people are developing hearts for giving that can last a lifetime. Please support their efforts. All of the money and cans collected at BPC will be donated to our local Community Helpers Food Pantry Program. In 2011 this program raised $9.5 million in cash and food for local hunger relief providers nationally. Since its inception more than 20 years ago Super Bowl of Caring has raised over $81 million to help the hungry.

DID YOU KNOW?
There is a sign-up sheet in the fellowship hall for Sunday School Hall Monitors.
You can sign up for any Sunday or for a whole month, which would be great! When the children leave the sanctuary to go to Sunday School, after the Pastor's children's sermon, you would go with them. The job is relatively easy. You sit in a comfy chair in the narthex and listen to the sermon while monitoring the halls during the Sunday School period.
You can almost bet that you will be needed at least once during your volunteered time. There is always one young person who has to go to the restroom during Sunday School. It is difficult for a teacher to accompany them without a lot of classroom disruption, so this is where you have the opportunity to help the Sunday School classes. You would just make sure the child gets to the restroom and back to the classroom.
When Sunday School is over, your job is completed. Another advantage, you can be one of the first to get to the "social" after church and get to the coffee and cookies first in the fellowship hall. You are almost there from the narthex!
